Synopsis

Knowledge of the forests is decisive for good management and the consequent use of natural resources. The latest balances made about ecosystems around the world have negative connotations (FAO, 2020), which worries some and encourages others to change the existing state of affairs. With this scientific knowledge, projects for the conservation and care of forests are erected, that is, sustainable forest management.
The development of this knowledge goes hand in hand with analysis techniques provided by forest sciences, dendrology, above all. As a science of trees, the ways of investigating them, and consequently the forests, are different and multiple. This document addresses the issue of forest structural analysis, since consideration of its structure can lead the environmental manager to obtain accurate and essential data to carry out management projects (Pérez et al., 2021).
In fact, having measurements about the distribution, richness, extension, diversity of species and differentiation, etc. contributes greatly to planning reforestation, projects to protect endemic species, sustainable use of wood and other resources derived from tree composition. In short, the science of forests is necessary for the practice of their use, an application topic of forestry and forestry (Meybeck et al., 2021).
The first chapter deals with the concept of forests, their general aspects, their distribution on the planet and, with greater emphasis, those of the Amazonian sector. In the second, everything related to forest sciences that attend to the forests themselves, dendrology, and those that attend to them together with sustainable strategic planning, such as forestry and plant sociology. Likewise, the techniques and indices used in their studies are described. These are globally classified into two important groups, the static approach and the dynamic approach, which correspond to different but complementary levels of research.
This respect focuses on the static approach because, in addition to corresponding to a descriptive level, that is, an approach to dendrological study, it also helps to address specifically, that is, without the intervention of other auxiliary botanical sciences, the subject in question. question. Being thus also, a first useful knowledge for a responsible planning. Which corresponds to the third chapter, sustainable forest management.
In the fourth chapter, a detailed study is made of an Amazonian forest in the lower basin of the Putumayo River, Cotton, whose structure of its forest mass is subjected to a structural analysis with a static approach. The resulting descriptions are supported by recommendations that, for the author, are relevant today. Finally, in the fifth and last chapter, final considerations of the entire present document are made.

José David Urquiza Muñoz, Universidad Nacional de la Amazonia Peruana

Doctoral researcher (Geography) at the Max Planck Institute of Biogeochemistry - Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (Germany), and assistant professor at the Faculty of Forestry Sciences - National University of the Peruvian Amazon.
